Open-mindedness
Entering lands unknown means you have to open yourself to new cultures, people and ways of life. The more you travel, the more open-minded you will become. After eating frogs legs in Vietnam, kangaroo in Australia and snake in China, tasting new foods will never make you queasy again, but rather be part of your new travel repertoire!
Friendships
Whether backpacking through South America, or working short-term in a new country, you will make amazing new friendships and connections. Sharing exciting experiences with friends, tighten your bonds. If you zip-line over a gorge in India, and snorkel in amazing blue waters in the Philippines together, you will most likely be friends for life. Courage Igene has made many new connections and friendships with people across the globe through his missionary trips.
New Horizons
Traveling will open your eyes to the fact that the way you do things isn’t necessarily the way the rest of the world does it. Experiencing different cultures will make you see that people do things differently, but that there is always a reason why. Every culture has some weird quirks, but that’s what makes our world so interesting!
Perspective
Getting away from it all after a bad break-up, work stress or a busy year studying will give you some space and perspective. Traveling allows you the time you need to re-assess, relax and reflect. Often a trip opens your eyes to why something didn’t work, and gives you time to come up with plan. You will also be more relaxed after a holiday, and have increased energy and motivation when returning to work or school.
Linguistic Abilities
You will learn languages without even trying. It might not make you perfectly fluent, but you will surely impress people if you can throw a few phrases around in their lingo. Merci, danke, m’goi!
On-the-go Education
You will learn without even trying: history, culture, architecture, food, politics and so much more. By visiting new countries you gain understanding of how the country functions on so many levels. Priceless education! Courage Igene has learned a lot about the world as well as himself throughout his travels.
Interesting Stories
“That one time in Burma… ” beats talk about what is happening at work. Sharing funny stories will bring people laughs and new insights. Maybe even new friends with similar experiences. Just make sure not to overdo it- It’s not a competition!
Amazing Photos
Deep, sparkling gorges with intense sunshine in Greece; turquoise, shallow waters with colorful fish in Egypt; deep red, desert sunsets with swirling winds in Dubai… The beauty of the world is there to be seen- and to be captured.
